FUTURE CITY

PMI Milwaukee/Southeast Wisconsin Chapter has been a proud sponsor of the Project Planning Award at the annual STEM Forward Wisconsin Regional program. The Future City Competition is a project-based learning activity that introduces middle school students to project management and the engineering design process. Students research, plan, and build a city that exists 100 years in the future while assessing risk and meeting a schedule.

AWARD RECIPIENTS

Congratulations to the Amazonia team from Horning Middle School for achieving this year’s Project Planning Award at the Wisconsin Regional Future City Competition!

Additional support for this local program was provided by National PMI; congratulations to Wheatland Center Elementary’s Apoloo team for achieving this year’s Outstanding Project Plan award!

This year, teams tackled the Climate Change Challenge by choosing a climate change impact and designing one innovative and futuristic climate change adaptation and one mitigation strategy to keep their residents healthy and safe. The Chapter is proud to partner with PMI, PMI-EF, STEM Forward, DiscoverE, and the Future City Competition to help keep project management front and center to answer an authentic, real-world question: How can we make the world a better place?

Congratulations to the The City of Slayijing team from Glen Hills Middle School who got to travel to Washington, DC for the Future City Competition Finals in February!

The 31st annual Future City Competition for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade STEM students held this year's finals of the nationwide regional winners during Engineer’s week, at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C. Three teams from China also competed.

As one of the nation’s leading engineering education programs and among the most popular, Future City is accessible to every student. The Future City competition recognizes the importance of inclusion and emphasizes participation from all students, male and female, all races and ethnicities and all economic levels. Participants come from middle schools, both public and private, can be home-schooled and can also be members of a nationally, regionally, or state-recognized youth-focused organization, such as the Boy and Girl Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, or 4-H Clubs.
